Educational trail
The Rieger path from Bítouchov (part of Semily) to Spálov is the most attractive part of the original path from Semily to Železný Brod. It was opened in 1909 by The Club of Czech Tourists. The path, named after the most important native of Semily, Dr. František Ladislav Rieger, is 3.5 km long. The path is partly built on the rocks. It enters the valley by a narrow suspension bridge, which is 77 metres long. Not far from the bridge the path goes past a weir, from which the water flows through 1,300 metres long underground tunnel to a hydroelectric power station in Spálov built in 1921 – 1926.
Semily Museum and Pojizerská Gallery
The first record of the village dates back to 1411, but some sources admit that there may have been an older Slavic settlement before. The major sight of Benešov is a stone cross with the Piety relief from 1788. It is situated in the part called Podolí. In the upper part of the village you will find two alcove chapels. There are also several timbered houses with beautiful carved gabled housetops, typical for the region of Podkrkonoší, in Benešov. In the fringe of the village there is an interesting technical monument - a wooden covered bridge over the Jizera River.
